Karen was Fringe Director for the 2004 and 2006 Adelaide Fringe. Currently she is working in Melbourne where she is Festival Director of the Big West Festival, a community based contemporary arts festival based in the western suburbs, and studying studio textiles at RMIT.

Previous to her time at Adelaide Fringe, Karen was a performer and co-founder of the performance group Crying in Public Places. She also spent much of her time producing and programming major events for the Melbourne International Arts Festival, Victorian Arts Centre Art-Ed Program, the 2000 Olympic Torch Relay Community Celebration and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Karen travels extensively both independently and for work although these days her work with Big West takes her to Africa rather than Edinburgh!
