Fringe Memories - 1996

Barbara Allen's 1996 Memory

Barbara Allen was the Director of the 1996 Adelaide Fringe. Her memory of that year was...

"1996 was an enormous challenge as it moved the Fringe from it's successful home in the West of Adelaide to a new hub in Rundle Street East and the City. The result was spectacular as the whole city came to life by filling empty shop fronts, old buildings and the streets with Fringe performers and artists. There was a fantastic atmosphere and Adelaide came out of its economic gloom and went ballistic. This was also a year of one of the most popular and successful Adelaide Festivals ever, directed by Barry Kosky. A brilliant combination of Festival and Fringe!"
