Introduction

The 1998 Adelaide Fringe was billed as the most extraordinary event yet.

Held from 20 February - 15 March 1998, the development of the 1998 program had been unprecedented.  Fringe Director Barbara Wolke stated "We find ourselves at the epicentre of what's great, new and different in the arts in Australia and around the world."

Independent artists attracted new audiences and the unpretentious style of the Fringe was spreading its growth.

The development of the Fringe's own ticketing system, FringeTix, was a new initiative to take the Fringe forward.

The Opening Night Street Parade which began the 1998 was the largest and craziest parade ever to take to the streets of Adelaide.

The Fringe Club, held in the Union Street Carpark, was open daily from 1pm til late.

There was also a Fringe Closing Night Party on Sunday 15 March at Norwood Parade, held as was part of the Maclaren Vale Norwood Food, Wine & Music Festival.
