Adelaide Festival Fringe.
The theme of FRAMES in 1988 Is CULTURAL IDENTITIES, with special events and programming to reflect social attitudes, political viewpoints
and artistic endeavours. There's something for everyone: drama, documentary, experimental films, humour, serious analysis and entertainment. Join us for the film event of the year.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
PANDEMONIUM - Dir. Haydn Keenan. Haydn Keenan's latest feature, a riotous and controversial gothic satire. Australian Premiere
THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS - Dir. Martha Ansara. Examining Australia's defence relationship with the USA, a drama of family conflict set in Fremantle during the lead-up to the America's Cup. SA Premiere
NICE COLORED GIRLS - Dir. Tracey Moffatt. An experimental film dealing with European man's confrontation with Aboriginal women 200 years
ago, by Australia's leading Aboriginal filmmaker.
WATCH OUT - Dir. Tracey Moffatt. A visually stunning video which combines Aboriginal dancers, music, paintings and photographs.
WITCH HUNT - Dir. Barbara Chobocky. Documents the events following the dawn raid on 200 Greek Australians charged with conspiring to defraud the social security system in 1978.
SPAVENTAPASSERI - Dir. Luigi Aquisto. The Italian family is brilliantly characterised in a thoughtful, humorous and entertaining film about emigration from Italy in the 60s. SA Premiere
FEATHERS - Dir. John Ruane. A light humorous film which follows the events of two couples drawn together by a social engagement on a visit to the country. SA Premiere
CANNIBAL TOURS - Dir. Dennis O'Rourke. O'Rourke follows a group of tourists on a journey along the Sepik River in Papua New Guinea, where values of Western culture are exposed with dry humour. WITH INERTIA - Drs. Margie Medlin & Jasmine Hurst. Five girls living in the city and on the edge ... their fast and not so fast lives ... urban culture at its worst. Just the tonic for Festival burn out.
PAINTING THE TOWN - Dir. Trevor Graham. A social history documentary about painter Yosi Bergner, the film explains how Jews brought a new
depth to Australian cultural life. SA Premiere
JILTED - Dir. Bill Bennett.
Set on Fraser Island, Qld, Jilted explores the relationship between workers and a visitor at an island resort. The pressure of isolation and escapism take their toll. Australian Premiere.
