Women and children in the Victorian era had practically no rights at all. A South Australian Pioneer, Catherine Helen Spence devoted her life to Social Reform. Australia's first woman novelist, journalist and political candidate, she changed not only Australia but the world. Miles Franklin called her "Australia's Greatest Woman".
