A Past of Beginnings _x001C_ Sometimes the little stories mean just as much as the big ones. Two young women discover a suitcase of letters and photographs. Each artefact unravels another tale about inspirational Australian women who preserve through isolation and loneliness._x001D_ This original 60-minute production had its first performances at the Australian National Gallery Come Alive festival in November 2010. Using the exhibits and information gleaned in the Museum collections the play looks at four Australian women who had grown up overcoming isolation and loneliness to become women of high repute. The women whose historical stories are -Beryl Royal _x0013_ whose story focuses on her and her families posting at South Solitary Island lighthouse, off the coast near Port Macquarie? -Annette Kellerman _x0013_ born in NSW and by the early twentieth century became one of the highest paid and most adored Hollywood and vaudeville stars. -Ida Prosser-Fenn, a nurse by trade, Known as Bohobo Puripuri Upi _x0013_ white medicine woman _x0013_ devoted her time in PNG, not only to her husband's work, but to treating injury and disease and assisting women through pregnancy and labour. -Peggy van Praagh -the founding artistic director of The Australian Ballet, educator and a tireless advocate for dance.
