The Adelaide Art Society was founded in 1952 and resides in its own gallery and studio in North Adelaide. The building, constructed in 1878 as a grain store, has been well renovated to suit its current use, and is called The Grain Store Studio. There are about 165 amateur and professional artists from all areas of South Australia who are members. Sketch groups meet in the studio each Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings and Wednesday evening for painting from the model, (either portraiture or nude). A still-life group meets on Tuesday mornings. There are no tutors at these sketch groups, and non members are welcome to attend. Workshops, usually one or two days in length, are held regularly in all media, with expert presenters drawn from both SA and interstate. Usually, on the last Friday of the month a social night is held, with a guest speaker or demonstration. Newsletters outlining all these activities are distributed to members four times a year via post or email. This exhibition features member Alan Ramachandran(originally from Singapore) His colourful watercolours are well known in South Australia and Singapore.
