Paul is an ordinary man with a shocking secret. At home he is a loving husband and father. At work he administers the Cut. In a society sickened by his profession, Paul struggles with his conscience and longs to tell the truth. THE CUT uncovers a man standing alone and exposes him to the world. Set in a parallel universe frighteningly similar to our own, military rule, political and religious zealotry and human fallibility all take their toll on Paul as he tries to convince himself - and the ones he loves - that he is a 'good' man. But what is Paul guilty of? What is the Cut, and what will its abolition mean for him, his family, and society? The Cut is a dark and compelling journey into the underbelly of an alternate reality in which human morality is anything but black and white. Mark Ravenhill exploded onto the world stage in 1996 with the controversial 'Shopping and F***ing' and continued his success with 'Some Explicit Polaroids' and 'Pool (No Water)'. His extensive body of work has taken in youth plays (_x0018_ Citizenship_x0019_ ), monologues (_x0018_ Product_x0019_ ) and plays with music ('Mother Clap's Molly House'). _x001C_ Intriguing... edgy... combines the enigma and menace of early Pinter with the political anger of late Pinter. If the play has a theme, it is one that might have been expressed by the late, great Peter Simple_x0019_ s Dr Heinz Kiosk: _x0018_ We are all guilty_x0019_ ._x001D_ Charles Spencer, Telegraph Review from the original production at the Donmar Warehouse, London.
