Glenelg has long been a holiday destination for South Australians and tourists from around the world_x0014_ from the days of neck-to-knee bathers to recent times when the addition of high rise apartments and the busy Jetty Road precinct have transformed it into a "city by the sea". In contrast, the quieter beachside suburbs of Brighton, Seacliff, Somerton, and Kingston Park have a different appeal for those who prefer less hustle and bustle. Artists are encouraged to draw inspiration from any of these areas to create up to three small format works for selection in the exhibition and the chance to win a cash prize and have their art work collected by the City of Holdfast Bay. In conjunction with the exhibition, the Bay Discovery Centre will also display postcards from Council's historical collection. The Bay Discovery Centre is the City of Holdfast Bay's social history museum located at Glenelg. With its changing exhibitions program, it is dedicated to celebrating local and state history, beach culture, and showcasing the work of South Australian artists.
