Candy Royalle: Love Spectacular is a confronting and sexually charged hour-long journey into the euphoric highs and the dark depths of love from one of Sydney's best loved performance poets. Using song, storytelling and poetry, this one-woman show draws on the personal experiences of Candy and her intimates. This show which debuted at the Sydney Fringe Festival was the first show in the festival to sell out. Audience members likened it to an intense roller-coaster ride of emotions that they could all relate to. The show weaves stories about love, the lack of it and the sexualisation of it to demonstrate the huge range of emotions that humans go through. It aims to challenge peoples perceptions of poetry, performance art and story-telling as well as engaging the audience in content not explored enough. "...we got into some performance poetry, written and delivered by the irrepressible and infectious Candy Royalle. Candy bound onto the soft red stage and started spitting silken and steel rhythms and rhyme, riding high on her unpredictable beat of hypnotic poetry. Her tales work by weaving threads of stories, peppered with emotion and sensitivity, passion and rage, into the minds of her audience. Like a ring master of a circus, she beckons you to follow and before you know it her tales come alive, breathing fire and walking the tight rope all behind the wide eyes of the spellbound crowd." CJ Shaw, Shut the Folk Up.
