Cheryl Bridgart is an internationally recognized master of the art form of thread painting creating portraits, fantasy pieces, animals and landscapes. Inspirations come from her dreams nature and life. Cheryl has exhibited, taught and has works in collections in UK, USA, Asia and Australasia. She has degrees in fine art, teaching, and education and has dedicated her life solely to art either creating new works or teaching her craft. She is recognized as one of the worlds leading artists in Fine Art Free Style Machine Embroidery (FAFAME) this is a technique where she embroiders either lifelike or surreal portraits using nothing but a sewing machine these works are in collections in UK, USA, Japan, Switzerland, NZ and throughout Australia including the Powerhouse Museum Sydney. Cheryl is an accomplished seamstress and wears nothing but her own clothes she is active in the art to wear movement and has exhibited her hand tailored museum piece embroidered coats and hats in USA UK and NZ. Cheryl was Guest retrospective artist at 2010 Art to Wear, in Darling Harbour Sydney. Cheryl has been Guest overseas artist to "The Road to California" Americas largest Textile exhibition and "Fashion Art and Craft", Harrogate UK. Some of her coats are currently being featured in a Short film titled "Portraits". Cheryl won the prestigious Dreamtime 96 National Billy Can Award This was a national competition open to all art forms and sponsored by Qantas, The Australia Council and Tourism Australia to promote Australia and its art and tourism internationally. In the last year she has won the 2010 SALA Inaugural Lalla on Hutt, Peoples Choice award, and is a finalist in Cibo_x0019_ s Galleria (the winner is yet to be announced).Cheryl was also one of finalists in the National Australasian Creative Challenge 2009 . This piece of Machine embroidery titled "8 Aussie Icons" is currently on a world exhibition tour and an article about its creation has been published in the book Galleria of Machine Artistry and Quilting. Cheryl has been published in several books including "Masters of their Craft", Norris Ioannou This exhibition will be Cheryl's major exhibition in SA this year and will feature her Wearable art, FAFME portraits, and a new body of work featuring surrealist acrylic painting some with applied FAFME embroidered masks, feathers and portraits.
