Trilogy _x0013_ Presented by Ethos Gallery. 3 artists. 3 stories. Thread and Needle. Silver & Gold. Canvas & Paper. Current work by Tara Seekamp _x0013_ textile artist & painter, Shannon Cornish _x0013_ manufacturing Jeweller and Cathryn Marinos _x0013_ illustrator and printmaker. Cathryn_x0019_ s story: While thinking on this theme of triples, I realise that there are some in my own life that have deep relevance to my art. I am part of a triad of artists, all of whom pursue individual direction whilst supporting the whole. I am one of three sisters who share laughter and love and I come from three diverse cultures which show themselves in my work. My paintings tell of family and home, moments of wonder in ordinary days and the desire to stay close to the ancestors who gave me their blood and their stories, Tara_x0019_ s Story: My story is a Trilogy of Trauma that occurred in 2010 starting with the death of my Grandmother in March. Less than 3 months later my Dad died in a plane crash, he was missing for 2 ? days. He was only 57. On the 4 month anniversary of his death I slipped on tiles in my home in Mt Barker and badly broke my right elbow. I had to have surgery and a lot of plates and screws to put it back together. In the space of 7 months I had lost 2 beloved family members, 1 in the most shocking, traumatic way; and I had lost the use of my right hand and arm which I needed to make art and to continue with my career. The only way I could survive this time was to keep making art even if it was drawing or stitching with my left hand. I have used my art as therapy and the images that have appeared have been ones of falling, fragmented girls, of loss and fear, of endings, grief and nightmares. Shannon_x0019_ s Story: _x0018_ Trilogy_x0019_ for me will be (hopefully _x0013_ fingers crossed!) a whole collection of new jewellery designs focussing on things in 3_x0019_ s. So there_x0019_ s bound to be _x0018_ the 3 little pigs_x0019_ _x0013_ it might even get more serious ...... but probably not! There will also be as part of the _x0018_ Trilogy exhibition a collection of _x0018_ mini_x0019_ artworks which each of us has worked on together _x0013_ it will be lots of fun!!! We hope to see you during Fringe 2011.
