Dance and comedy are not your usual pair. But Jade Erlandsen is striving to make contemporary dance more exciting and entertaining for YOU. By using popular music, everyday themes and collaborations with some of Adelaide funniest people, Tie is a great way to ease into contemporary dance if this is your first time, or a nice excuse to get back to the theatre. Jade's work in regional dance, dance education and dance in the disability community has enabled her to use all of her skills to make dance available to everyone. Developing audiences is a passion that Jade undertakes in every work she produces, and every community she visits. Through her unique style of dance education, Jade has made dance fun, accessible and positive for all who are lucky enough to participate. It has been this attitude to dance that has fired her desire to make contemporary dance a more popular choice for the general public, an idea she says has to happen from the artists. "We (the artists) need to make our craft inspiring, challenging and sometime controversial, but it MUST be appealing to audiences and yes, entertain them". The development of Tie included looking at the different style of knots, symbolism of ties, ties as a sign of membership, the sexual connotations of where ties point, the relationship to the hangmans noose and much more. Through clever script writing, task based movement and a entertaining musical score, Tie will surely impress. In the 2009 Fringe, Jade's debut work 'Out of the Dark' impressed critics and audiences alike and ensured a sell out season, a nomination for Best Dance and an Australian Dance Award. Be sure to book in early to avoid disappointment.
