The controversial award-winning comedy version of Janey_x0019_ s extraordinary life story. Janey_x0019_ s jaw-dropping background _x0013_ a Dickensian childhood in the slums of Glasgow, married into a Scottish gangster family at 19, a pub landlady in the toughest part of Glasgow for 15 years, then a wrongful arrest for possession of firearms at the height of the Trainspotting drug years in Glasgow - formed the basis of her bestselling autobiography _x001C_ Handstands in the Dark_x001D_ and, in _x001C_ Good Godley!_x001D_ becomes the basis of an award-winning comedy show. "It's not unlike the sensation of shock and delight of seeing very early Billy Connolly_x001D_ said the Financial Times in London. _x001C_ Some of the sharpest-elbowed comedy in the world_x001D_ wrote the New York Times. _x001C_ Unlike anything I_x0019_ ve heard from a stand-up comic before_x001D_ raved TheatreReview in New Zealand. Janey is a multi-award-winning Scottish comedienne, playwright, award-winning blogger and former columnist for The Scotsman newspaper. A regular on BBC Radio, she has performed her comedy shows and one-woman play around the world, including off-Broadway in New York. In 2006, she was a close runner-up for the annual Scotswoman of the Year award as _x001C_ the most inspirational woman in Scotland_x001D_ . That same year, she won the Spirit of the Festival Award at the New Zealand International Comedy Festival. A regular 5-star performer at the Edinburgh Fringe, in 2008 she won the Fringe Report Award as 'Best Performer' and two Nivea Funny Women Fringe Awards - as 'Best Stand-Up' and, overall, for 'Best Show' as "one of the most prolific and extraordinary stand-up comedians working in the UK". That same year, she was also nominated as 'Best International Guest' at the New Zealand Comedy Guild Awards and was voted No 3 by readers in London listing magazine Time Out's list of Top Ten Comedians. In 2009, the New Zealand Comedy Guild nominated her as 'Best International Guest'; they had also nominated her on each of her previous visits in 2002, 2006 and 2008. No wonder that, in the UK, The Scotsman called her _x001C_ Scotland_x0019_ s funniest woman& the Godmother of Scottish Comedy_x001D_ , the Daily Telegraph called her _x001C_ the most outspoken female stand-up in Britain_x001D_ and What_x0019_ s On Stage hailed her as _x001C_ the greatest British improviser of her generation_x001D_ . To find out why The Times wrote: _x001C_ Janey Godley, has been told that she risks arrest if she continues with her stand-up show, Good Godley!_x001D_ you will have to see the show. You can learn more about Janey on her website www.janeygodley.com and in her award-winning blogs (running since 2004) which get over 500,000 hits per week - accessible via her website.
