KURRURU YOUTH PERFORMING ARTS
Look out Adelaide! The blackest comedy routines in town are returning for another night of corka comedy at Nunga Funny, a showcase of SA's funniest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. For one night-only Kurruru Youth Performing Arts presents a night of laughter and a new face to black comedy. Now in its fourth year, Kurruru has been offering Adelaide chance to laugh along with some local funny nungas since 2008. The brain-child of local comedienne, producer and artsworker Diat Alferink, Nunga Funny gives local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander comediennes an opportunity to flex their funny bone and become part of a growing comedy scene. "The community loves to get together, have big yarn, tell stories, share experiences and laugh" says Diat. "Comedy has had an amazing response in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and the annual Nunga Funny events have maintained and encouraged more and more community to come and have a laugh, even muster the courage to get involved if they are game." Nunga Funny has grown out of the national Deadly Funny competition, an Australia-wide competition searching for Australia's funniest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. The success of SA comediennes in the competition is testament to Kurruru's firm support of Nunga Funny. The showcase is a training ground for Australia's up-and-coming funny mob', explains Diat.
