Aquatopia: Artist Statement The inspiration for Aquatopia is my life-long love affair with water _x0013_ be it rivers, creeks, wetlands, or even coastal landscapes, especially if they are located in the ever changing zone between the high and low water mark. My photographic portfolio contains water influenced landscapes from the Murchison River gorge in Western Australia, to perfect reflections in pools of Flinders Ranges streams, lush valleys in the Cairns region, the Torrens River in flood, and the myriad of streams/rivers/flood plains within the Murray Darling Basin. Multi Media Event A series of 3 slide shows with highly contrasting themes will be synchronised with an evocative sound track and projected onto a screen within Lustre Galleries. These multi media events will be shown during the exhibition opening and at regular intervals during each day of the exhibition. The themes are: - 'Moments in Minimilism' - 'Colour X-ray" - 'Aquatopia' Cascade Wonderland Recently I_x0019_ ve rediscovered Mannum Falls which is a little known natural wonderland located at the eastern edge of the Mt Lofty Ranges. This 2 km long system of cascades has created a series of pools in which the foamy cascading water gently slows down, moving in dream like patterns which are even beyond the imagination of creative minds such as Stanley Kubrick, Brett Whitely or Andy Warhol. Digital Imaging Techniques Although I shoot most of my photographs using an SLR camera, these photos become images once burnt onto CD when I have the film processed. I consider myself to be a photographic artist as I use a combination of three digital imaging techniques to produce photographic images that can vary greatly in respect of colour, print medium used and by even challenging our own perception of reality. The three techniques I have used for this exhibition are: - complementary reversal - this is achieved by reversing an image and then stitching the original plus the reversed image together electronically to create a completely different perfectly symmetrical image - _x0018_ colour x-ray_x0019_ printing of photographic images onto art canvas or metallic photographic paper - I developed the complementary reversal and colour x-ray techniques using the program Photoshop Exhibition Venue: Lustre Galleries I choose to hold the Aquatopia exhibition at the studio/gallery of jeweller Christine Pyman (Lustre Galleries). Like myself Christine has a love of aquatic environments and shares a fascination with water created landscapes such as Mannum Falls. Christine has made a number of jewellery pieces especially for this exhibition. Artist Statement I often like to escape to Aquatopia. It is a perfect world in which I_x0019_ m surrounded by dreamy aquatic landscapes or close by are stunning landscapes which have been greatly influenced by the action of water. The three images I_x0019_ ve chosen to best express the emotions I feel when I escape into the dreamy world of Aquatopia are: (1) The Wetland Wader, Marcollat Watercourse (2) Inner Reflections, Mount Burr and (3) Foamy Dream, Mannum Falls. The original images of these three photographs are located at: Facebook - Lustre Galleries homepage.
