The Goon Show was a prominent feature of British homes in the 1950's. Written predominantly by Spike Milligan, and performed by Harry Seacombe, Peter Sellers and Spike Milligan, their absurdist storylines and bizarre characters have influenced generations of comedians, musicians and many others throughout the years. Being a radio show, they relied heavily on pre-recorded and live special effects noises, and paired with the musical talent of people such as Wally Stott, Ray Ellington, and Max Geldray, they created a reality for their strange world to live in. Performed by Nicholas Coughlin (writer), Andre Ceccon and Benjamin Standish, On the Shoulders of Goons is a confusing tale of Neddy Seagoon_x0019_ s grandson, Alec and his adventure in Australia during an undisclosed intelligence mission. During the story, he and his partner Oliver will experience some increasingly peculiar situations, filled with disturbingly odd characters. To support these actors will be Shannon Graham (pianist), Jarred Simpkin (guitarist), Christopher Maybank (trumpeter) and Alistair Jones (drummer). This show attempts to revitalise the general sense of The Goon Show, and this new script aims to pay tribute to the brilliance of these fine men. In keeping with the original act, the performers will appear live on stage with scripts and a recording will be made of the antics which ensue. After the performance, a rendition of one of the original Spike Milligan scripts will be enacted, to give viewers an idea of the unique style that influenced such comedies as The Simpsons, Shrek, Peter Cook & Dudley Moore, and Monty Python. Expect poor jokes, unbelievable plots and ridiculous characters.
