Loved the whole thing" ex-resident of Woomera Rated 15+ (PG) What_x0019_ s Woomera about? Rockets? Science? Military research? A detention centre? What about the people who live there, in this town built for rocket scientists, in the middle of the South Australian desert? What_x0019_ s it like to be a teenager, brought there by your parents_x0019_ work? How does it feel when everyone you get to know moves on? Jess is fifteen. She_x0019_ s getting drunk by herself. She_x0019_ s just found out her family isn_x0019_ t moving back to the city. Josh is fifteen too. He_x0019_ s just moved to Woomera with his physicist mum. He_x0019_ s walking around town looking up at more stars than he_x0019_ s ever seen. 'Can I give you a tip, Josh? We_x0019_ re not going to be friends. That_x0019_ s my tip. Don_x0019_ t make any friends here. Because everyone leaves.' Rocket Town is based on conversations with young people and adults in Woomera, about what it_x0019_ s like to live there now. Emily Steel _x0013_ Writer/Director Emily is originally from Wales. She moved from London to Adelaide in 2010. Her work as a playwright includes: Boom Boom, a radio play broadcast on BBC Radio 4; Things beginning with M, a collaborative project performed in Cardiff, Wales; and Station, part of a Cardiff-based project to develop new writing inspired by the city. In 2008 she was selected for a project run by the BBC and the Royal Court Theatre, London, to develop emerging writers. Her next radio play has just been commissioned by the BBC. She took part in Adhocracy 2010 at Vitalstatistix. Rocket Town is her first production in Australia. Dee Easton _x0013_ Jess Dee studied Acting at AC Arts. She was associate director for dreamthinkspeak_x0019_ s Don_x0019_ t Look Back in 2008 and her professional directing debut The Drawer Boy was nominated for three 2009 Curtain Call Awards. For Fringe 2009 Dee devised The Adventures of Dead Jim with Bad Company, and co-directed junglebean_x0019_ s production of Neil Labute_x0019_ s Autobahn. She directed Boys_x0019_ Life for Accidental Productions. For Fringe 2010 Dee performed in The Embryos by Alan Grace. Recently she participated in Act Now_x0019_ s 24hr Theatre Challenge, and Adhocracy 2010 at Vitalstatistix, and assistant directed Ruby Bruise for The Misery Children. For Fringe 2011, she also developed No Hello for the Adelaide Duende Collective. Sam Calleja _x0013_ Josh Sam graduated from AC Arts in 2010. While there, he appeared in Crate Of Souls directed by Sarah John, Underground directed by Paulo Castro, As You Like It directed by Terence Crawford, Rosmersholm directed by Corey McMahon, In The Jungle Of Cities directed by Peter Dunn and SA State Theatre Company_x0019_ s King Lear directed by Adam Cook. Sam has also been performing improvisational comedy with ImproNow since 2006.
