Three nights of Swing & Dixieland Jazz
Music
Presented by:
SOUTHERN JAZZ CLUB INC
The Southern Jazz Club has been featuring Trad Dixie swing type jazz now for almost 40 years. It meets at 'The Highway' on the southwest corner of Marion Road and Anzac Highway every Tuesday evening commencing at 8pm. An ideal venue for an evening of Jazz entertainment with a drinks bar, good meals available from 6pm and a dance floor for those who wish to dance. Which many do! During the Fringe we decided to feature three of the bands who play at our club during the year. They are three out of 20 to 25 bands who get to play two or three times a year along with occasional visits from interstate and overseas bands. The bands we are featuring are a mix of younger and older players who play great toe tapping music with a real beat. Twilight Syncopators has a touch of swing, while Cocktail Society dress up to look the part and Ellington's Heirs plays a very distinctive style. Various instruments take it in turns to play as well as playing in unison. Trumpet, Clarinet, Saxophone, Banjo, Drums, Double Bass, Piano, in our case a Grand Piano, are the main instruments and accompanied often by great vocals. The bands have three breaks during the three hour event usually lasting 10 minutes each. Dress is good casual, but wear hard soled footwear if you like dancing. Many come early for dinner with good parking in the ample car park. Everyone has a good time and you will too at this great club which is as strong as it has ever been in its 39 year history. Come along and have a great night out. Children under 15 FREE
