Vibrant dances representing India past to present. Opening with "Dance of Rama & Sita" by VIDT. Introducing Priyanka in "Asoka", a moving piece mixing traditional and contemporary, depicting the life of Emperor Asoka. Continuing with several more colourful dances, and ending with Shakti in "Thillana", dance of rhythm & joy Bharatanatyam style. An array of dances showing the colourful variety India offers. Dances of India is happy to present Priyanka Dasgupta from Singapore in her innovative piece about the life and turmoils of Emperor Asoka who finally embraced Buddhism. This piece combines the traditional Bharatanatyam music with French progressive rock and was a hit at the Edinburgh Fringe. VIDT will display fun and dynamic dances with a contemporary twist as well as one from the village in Rajasthan. Shakti shows her disciplined technique and impeccable footwork which is is known for in the classical piece, Thillana which received awesome reviews in the Avignon Festival 2010.
