Beethoven's 6th Symphony, the 'Pastorale', in a rarely heard 2 piano arrangement headlines the program. A newly composed work 'Firestorm' for 2 pianos and 2 clarinets by local composer Thomas Saunders will feature a multimedia display to complement the tranquility of the Australian landscape and destructive power of a bushfire. Features special guests Amanda Lovelock and Charise Altmann. From one half of the team that brought you 'The Planets' and 'Symphonic Rhapsody' from previous Fringes. Beethoven's Pastoral symphony is well known and much loved, being one of only a few of his works to feature a "programmatic" description of each movement. 1st Mvt - Awakening of Cheerful Feelings upon arrival in the Country 2nd Mvt - Scene at the Brook 3rd Mvt - Happy Gathering of Country Folk 4th Mvt - Thunderstorm 5th Mvt - Shepherd's song; cheerful and thankful feelings after the storm 'Firestorm' by local composer/performer Thomas Saunders is similarly programmatic and has a similar 'countryside' feel. 1st Mvt - Bushland 2nd Mvt - The Fire Breaks 3rd Mvt - Flee 4th Mvt - Firestorm 5th Mvt - The Fire Passes 6th Mvt - Recovery and Strength
