In their latest endurance spectacular, Brown Council (NSW) lifts the curtain on comedy to reveal the darker, malicious side of humour and laughter. A Comedy begins like a late night variety show and escalates into the realm of violence, mortification and impossible conquests. Prepare to laugh, then groan, and finally realize how creepy you are for laughing at all! With four shows repeated back-to-back each night, Brown Council build a highly charged experience that challenges their own limits while asking you to consider what it means to be a _x0018_ comedy audience_x0019_ . Last seen in Adelaide for the 2009 Adelaide Fringe award-winning show Six Minute Soul Mate, Brown Council_x0019_ s A Comedy is a live art event not to be missed! Brown Council is an Australian video/performance art collaboration consisting of four artists: Frances Barrett, Kate Blackmore, Kelly Doley and Diana Smith. Since meeting at Sydney_x0019_ s College of Fine Arts in 2005, Brown Council have established and maintained a strong collective arts practice exploring the intersections between performance art and theatre. Brown Council reclaim, embody and tear-apart images, sounds and actions from visual culture to interrogate how it is that we should _x0018_ perform_x0019_ . Their video installations and live performances have featured in festivals, exhibitions and events both nationally and internationally. www.browncouncil.com 'A Comedy remains my favourite for its intelligent conception, excellent execution and the collective exuberance it unleashed.' Fiona McGregor, RealTime Created, designed and performed by Brown Council: Frances Barrett, Kate Blackmore, Kelly Doley and Diana Smith; Outside eye: Julie Anne Long; Sound designer: Fred Rodrigues; Costume designer: Alia Parker; Dramaturgy and rehearsal director: Daisy Brown; Additional artistic consultation and front-of-house host: Jo Zealand. Vitalstatistix is a boutique producer/presenter company, presenting contemporary theatre and hybrid arts projects that: -are risk-taking, provocative, political, challenging and moving; -present distinctive, new, outsider, and need-to-be-heard voices; -are informed by feminist and gender-aware perspectives; -encompass creative collaboration, contemporary cultural research, imagination and experimentation; -are intrinsically informed and definitively non-didactic in communication with audiences. Vitalstatistix (Vitals), and our venue Waterside, provide a stimulating and supportive producing environment. We create meaningful partnerships with independent artists and creative teams who desire to work organically with us over several years of the development and production of their work. This investment over time means each year_x0019_ s program is grown from seed sown before. Our programming includes development and presentation of new work, collaborative and hybrid projects, residencies, community-based projects and industry initiatives. www.vitalstatistix.com.au
