ARTS IN HEALTH AT FMC
24 Hours is a public art project implemented at Flinders Medical Centre, South Australia, by Arts in Health at FMC. 24 Hours reflects the continual activity (day and night) of the hospital environment. The project explores the diverse range of physical activity and personal experiences associated with the functioning of a busy hospital by capturing the diverse states of activity and calm, fragility and strength, which are frequently experienced by people coping with hospitalisation and disconnection from familiar surroundings and daily routines. Patients, staff and visitors were encouraged to participate and share their stories through simple interactive sessions with artists; creating visual artworks or using the movement of their hands to convey their thoughts and feelings. The project includes sound, movement, felting, photography and film in a domestic-style felted installation featuring four digital screens with earphones. Arts in Health at FMC is one of the largest and most diverse hospital-based Arts in Health programs in Australia. It has a national and international reputation as a high quality and innovative multi-arts program. Arts in Health at FMC aims to make the hospital a more warm and welcoming environment; to support patient recovery and promote health and well being.
