June of the new Millennium; for eighty-year old Peter Walker, ex-Battle of Britain pilot, an unexpected new challenge is about to commence. From the comfort of the Silver Birches Retirement Home, he must once again find the resilience, determination and strength to do what must be done. As he relives past glories, losses, wartime experiences, family memories and the heady days of blue skies and battles, he searches for the answer to the biggest question so far. Personal, charming, funny and hugely inventive, _x0018_ Spitfire Solo_x0019_ is one man_x0019_ s battle for survival, the second time around. Blending theatre, music and film in this multi-layered and textured production, Nicholas Collett (The Six-Sided Man) plays a multitude of characters, lifts us high into his eggshell blue world and virtually recreates the Battle of Britain - onstage! _x001C_ Collett is powerful _x0013_ incredibly believable_x001D_ - Adelaide Artbeat _x001C_ What an excellent actor is Collett _x0013_ a marvel_x001D_ - Le Monde _x001C_ Collett sends a shiver down the spine_x001D_ - The Scotsman _x001C_ 'Spitfire Solo' is a very different kind of show. Collett gives a wonderful evocation of what it was like to be a Spitfire pilot - and re-enacts the entire Battle of Britain using only a couple of sauce bottles and a few slices of bread! It is a poignant and moving play, lightened by some gentle humour - an excellent fringe show._x001D_ - culturaldessert.blogspot.com
