Between concrete certainty and the vastness of mystery lies a space where one dwells in the tension of knowing and unknowing, courage and atrophy, intrigue and fear. Tombola navigates this threshold space inviting performers and audience to experience the beauty, intrigue and anxiety of mystery. The word _x0018_ Tombola_x0019_ originates from Italian and by definition is _x0018_ a lottery in which tickets are drawn from a revolving drum_x0019_ . The work grapples with the human need for mystery, surprise and control. These elements have played in tension throughout the creation and execution of the work. _x0018_ Chance_x0019_ methods of choreography, reminiscent of Merce Cunningham, such as rolling a dice to determine sequence order and repetitions has gone hand in hand with more structured choreography as Heidi melded her own desires for both order and mystery. Through abstract reflection of common experience audiences can expect to see something of them selves reflected in the work and to participate in their own intriguing experience, just by showing up at the door.
