BANG! An exhibition of explosive parameters is: Proudly supported by the Richard Llewellyn Arts and Disability Trust and Arts SA. Following on the mechanaquest tradition of images composed of raw elements of fire, water, earth, and air, with components of machinery and technology, rendering a post industrial aesthetic of the decay and recycling of our technology and our lives, the mechanaquest 2012 continues with precision, modern time piece, clockworks, blood, ancient poetry, and the explosive impact of the fireworks of independence. As our lives divide and disintegrate, the whole image can not be contained in a single frame but is represented as conjoined puzzle pieces, in adjoining sets of two three and four, related only by common themes of connectivity and union. Thus we put the pieces of out lives back together, striving for some balance and sense of wholeness, that we may be at peace and our view of ourselves somehow remaining intact. Presented in giclee on German etching paper, this set of 20 original images is as vibrant and dynamic as the chaos of our modern lives, in earthtones and brilliant colour, describing the endless cycles of seasons and the continuing rhythm of the human heart. The elements that make up this work show the progression of time represented by the Taoist and native American mandala calendars with days and seasons shown in lines and color. This transition through a chaos of words and explosive potential shown by Aramaic script of ancient voices and the fireworks display of independence where the talk keeps on clicking and the beat goes on. The Mechanaquest is exploring relationships of contrasting shape and colour, form and perspective, weight and balance, of mechanical elements, and interplay of form and function, where a curve may communicate motion, a texture implies an emotion, a line might imply force or connection, a component may illustrate a function of a person or societal process or an abstract symbol of mathematics, as the fabric of space-time, or the affirmation of life or spirit. The words and language of Spirituality and Magic have always been the same as the words and language of Mathematics Electronics and Mechanics. The Spiritual impulse is reflected linguistically and functionally by the laws and language of electric theory and mathematics all arising from the flow of water and its manifestations in force movement and potential. Our culture moves and flows in very much the same way. The individual acts as a component in the mechanisms of the home, workforce, and cultural identity forming circuits and processes that manipulate and modulate force. Whether it is in identity or function we store, release, distribute and change the nature of the forces in our lives in a similar circuitry and we act out roles that could be described by the attributes of those components. Different forms of force may include: Social- flow of information Economic- flow of finance Industrial- distribution of the products of our culture.
