The show reveals how school acts as a catalyst for the myriad changes and discoveries that young people make throughout their formative years. It shows how the forced conformity of the classroom brings out self-revelation, insight into friendships and just pure joy when you start to know yourself. Devised, produced, and performed entirely by teens, it is a unique insight into the world of being young in today's world. The Off the Wall troupe is a newly-formed collective of youth who came together to share their passion for circus. All the members are either still at school or recently finished; they won the Original New Circus Award at the 2011 Melbourne Fringe Festival, and all are experienced performers. The show is directed by Sara Pheasant, an award-winning circus director with many years of experience. No Such Thing as Normal incorporates acrobatics, aerials, dance, theatre, and narrative; these young performers use school as a microcosm of rest of life, exploring identity, friendship, enmity, sexuality and one's place in the world. It is both intimately meaningful and hilarious - "not just breath-taking but gut wobblingly funny" (http://bit.ly/pEs9NR). No Such Thing as Normal is an examination of what it means to be an individual, and how important it is to be yourself. It is a window into a world where to be upside-down is as normal as being right-way-up and where backflips are an accepted means of transportation. It is poignant and irreverent, it is elegant and chaotic, and while it is certainly not normal, it is definitely fun. A must see for youth and others.
