The Garden of Reason first came to my mind while i started drawing floral designs with pencil and paper. With my beleifs rooted in Islam and Sufi Mysticism, i came up with the idea to combine these illustrations with my own poetry to help educate people on the beautiful and poetic face of Islam. Geomtric images in Islam represent the infinate universe. Something that is never-ending. Whereas flora in Islam represents a creation of Allah (God) and a gift for mankind. The name Garden of Reason, taken from The Garden of Eden, is my own philosophy of our struggle in this life between the known and the unknown, in Arabic and in Islam it is described as Az-Zahir (The Manifest) and Al-Batin (The Hidden). We try to reason with ourselves through logic and assertion when confronted with something we can not familiarise with. Instead, to give in completely and accept the unknown for what it is proves difficult for most of us, but should be a goal for each individual to achieve peace of mind. My illustrations help me everday, it is my meditation and a necessity for me to keep my inner peace balanced. It is a way for me to share my love for God and my love for life artistically.
