DISAPPEARANCE is an exhibition being held at Paper String Plastic Gallery from the 14th of March to the 7th of April. Curated by Madeline Reece and Adele Sliuzas, Disappearance will feature the work of Brad Lay, Riley O_x0019_ Keeffe, Julia McInerney, Alanna Lorenzon & Sarah Buckley. Working across fields of sculpture, drawing and moving image, these artist explore notions of nothingness in contemporary art. Paper String Plastic Gallery is an interior design, art gallery and studio space situated at 99A Hindley Street, Adelaide. Opened in Septemper 2010, directors Kiel Hummel and Magdalena Tomaszewski created the space in order to encourage dialogue between artists and designers (emerging & established), the general public and arts community. The Gallery hosts curated exhibitions, studio space and other events throughout the year. Nothing is But what is not Through silence, absence and void, the presence of the art object makes reference to its own disappearance. This exhibition comprises of five emerging South Australian artists whose practice pursues a play between presence and absence. The exhibition will feature the work of Brad Lay, Riley O_x0019_ Keeffe, Julia McInerney, Alanna Lorenzon & Sarah Buckley. Working across fields of sculpture, drawing and moving image, these artist explore notions of nothingness in contemporary art. These works show the positive and engaging properties of absence. Each artists has been chosen by the curators because their work illustrates the ideas outlined in the curatorial rationale. Brad Lay_x0019_ s sculptural practice works upon themes of void and the abyss in nature. Riley O_x0019_ Keeffe_x0019_ s video work examines the notion of presence and absence of the object. Julia McInerney looks into the periphery of vision through sculptural work, evoking silence. Alanna Lorenzon weaves a narrative of hollowness and heaviness through drawings. Sarah Buckley explores disappearance within a sculptural landscape.
