The Wrong Place at the Right Time
Cabaret
Presented by:
MISS KITTY'S KARAVAN
Miss Kitty is never quite sure if she is in THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME or THE WRONG PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME. She's pretty sure she's often in THE WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME, but rarely is she in THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME. Miss Kitty's origins are somewhat vaque but it seems likely that she was born of lower class parents in provincial England who had no particular ambition for their daughter other than for her to marry a nice boy like Nigel the apprentice butcher. After leaving school, Kitty found work as an office assistant with a local Conservative MP who was eventually forced to resign his seat of Utter Wittering after a scandal involving gambling and unorthodox sexual practices. Kitty disappeared abroad after getting fed up with tabloid newspaper phone hackers misinterpreting her text messages like "I'm whipping up some Toad in the Hole and Spotted Dick tonight - yummy!" Little else is known about Kitty before she became a singer. It is rumoured that she was seen working as a croupier in Monte Carlo on the chemin de fer tables and may have been employed in a house of ill fame in Berlin...and, because of her particular skills, may even have been employed on hourly rates as a honey-trap agent. A recent Interpol report suggests Miss Kitty has arrived in Australia. She has been a 'person of interest'to a number of international and security agencies due to her association with certain unsavoury persons. She, however regards herself as quite savoury (even flavoursome) and has tweeted that scuttlebutt about rehabilitation centres and homes for fallen women was all abouit a distant cousin, Minette von Mantrappe, with whom she is often confused. THE WRONG PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME brings the compelling and - let's be honest - heartwarmingly confusing story of Miss Kitty to the Adelaide stage for the first time. In the role of Miss Kitty is KERRY REID, well known to Adelaide audiences as PATSY DECLINE. Supporting Kerry are musicians who could easily be mistaken for THE FAUX MANOUCHES often associated with LISETTE (2007 Cabaret Festival, 2009 & 2010 Cabaret Fringe, 2010 & 2011 Adelaide Fringe). In fact the KARAVAN are The Faux Manouches' identical cousins - Michael Baldwin (guitar), Bernadette Dempsey (accordion), John Denlay (guitar), Paul Jankovic (bass) and Hayley Purcell (violin). THE WRONG PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME features reworking of songs by Cole Porter, Paul Simon, Page & Plant, Charlie Chaplin, Richard Rogers and David Bowie together with original material from Reid and Denlay.
