Blood, Sweat and Theory is presented by the Green Rat Collective, a group of five emerging theorists and arts writers, from the South Australian School of Art. The founding members of GRC include, Lizzy Emery, Jess Erceg, Laura Masters, Lauren Mustillo and Adele Sliuzas. Blood, Sweat and Theory will examine the process of writing as an art practice, within a gallery context. The experience of using a typewriter is not a nostalgic act but an exposure of the writing process. The sound, the rhythm and the physicality of the process mean that the artists/writers become involved in the performance of writing in a different way. It is about exposing the act of making writing as an art practice. What we are doing here is no different to what we do at home, except now people are looking at us and hopefully understanding writing in a different way. Writing endurance performance: The writing becomes an exquisite corpse of the minds of the five theorists. We will be writing about art, philosophy, what we ate for lunch, our friends, and also about the viewers in the space. As people come in to the space and interact with us while we are writing they have the capacity to change the flow and direction of our train of thought. They become just as important to the text as the ideas in our heads. In Blood Sweat and Theory, we invite the audience to consider; what is art without theory, but images on a wall? GRC aims to bring to light research as vital to the creative process, a process which provides a context, a meaning and a voice to creativity. The performative element of this installation brings the conventionally private act of writing into a public space. GRC endeavours to make writing and research visible through an engagement with the public domain, to de-mystify these processes as accessible to the wider community. GRC wants you to get excited about theory. _x001C_ Writing is like a game. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
