At 6pm on March 7, 2012, three performers will enter a 6m x 5m outdoor performance space, with nothing: no provisions, no objects, no shelter, no clothes. They will not leave until 6pm March 17, and in that time they invite their audience to enable their survival. Deliverance will play out over these ten days in a 30m? space marked out on the lawn of Rymill Park/Mullawirraburka at the Adelaide Fringe Festival's Gluttony venue. Performance artists Penny Harpham, Kat Henry and William McBride will call on their audience to engage in an extraordinary performance artwork, continuing unbroken for a total of 240 hours. 'Deliverance'_x0014_ the action of being rescued or set free_x0014_ visits itself upon the performers, who, in beginning with nothing, free themselves from the burden of material goods, the burden of time, the burden of plans, the burden of control. In turn, the audience is presented with a basic request: provide for us, help us to survive, and in the act of giving you will be set free. In Deliverance, nothing is wasted, nothing is lost, nothing is taken for granted. Everything we are offered will be gratefully received, and treasured, shared or put to use. We invite the people of the Adelaide Fringe to visit us repeatedly throughout the performance. This is an artwork about faith, risk and vulnerability, and also about resourcefulness, process, discipline and survival. Beginning with a most basic premise, Deliverance opens itself up to endless interpretations and manifestations. It is unknown what will become of this piece, these performers, this space, after ten days on the lawn at Gluttony. ... Deliverance was first performed over a 40-hour period at Metro Arts in Brisbane in 2011 and is being delivered to Adelaide with the generous support of Gluttony and the Adelaide Fringe Festival. Watch this performance via a live, 24/7 live web video feed [url forthcoming] and visit us regularly as part of your festival ritual. The performance is free.
