COMIC STRIP
After a sell out season at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe last year Comic Strip is making its welcome return to the Adelaide Fringe and the Garden of Unearthly Delights. Curators Asher Treleaven (Melbourne International Comedy Festival Critics Choice 2010) and Gypsy Wood (The new queen of kink, Time Out) revive the vintage strip club era of Go-Go, Burlesque and Stand Up. Burlesque clubs in the 60_x0019_ s were free from the puritanical anti profanity laws and became a haven for comedians like Lenny Bruce. A place where comedians could and would say anything they dared without threat of incarceration. We don_x0019_ t anticipate police busting down the door to haul artists away, mainly because we_x0019_ ll be in a tent in the Garden Of Unearthly Delights and busting down the canvas just doesn_x0019_ t have the same appeal. Guaranteed laughs will be had when local and international comic guests such as DEANNE SMITH (CAN), HANNAH GADSBY, DES BISHOP (IRE) JASON BYRNE (IRE) & ASHER TRELEAVEN take to the stage. All the way from London, 60_x0019_ s retro Burlesque sensation Agent Lynch will make her Adelaide premiere alongside Gypsy Wood who having performed for Prime Ministers to Rock Stars and the rich and famous in between, mixes her penchant for shocking and divine antics with a naughty dash of humor and hustle. &&&&)' Adelaide Now &&&& Three Weeks (UK) _x001C_ Perhaps one of the most striking things about Comic Strip is how much fun both performers and audience seem to be having, and how rare it is to see women who are not airbrushed, size-zero models enjoying their bodies and celebrating them_x001D_ The Observer (guardian) UK _x001C_ The only honest art form is laughter, comedy. You can_x0019_ t fake it& try to fake three laughs in an hour, they_x0019_ ll take you away man, you cant._x001D_ Lenny Bruce
