“[Alexandra's work] shows promising and adept young artists negotiating their respective technologies and each other with sensitivity and conscience” – Dianne Reid Alexandra Knox's new work for two emerging dancers, Rebecca Fletcher & Tae-li Andrew Haycroft, investigates Chinese Meridians, Indian Chakras, & Native American Spirit Totem influences on our bodies in movement. Dynamic, evocative designs by Davis Browne and a sensitively interwoven composition from Tim Rodgers result in visceral, engaging choreography. Choreographically, the work reflects how meridians connect to the heart and also directly to each chakra/energy system. New music developed during rehearsal is composed by Tim Rodgers. The composition will explore Yah’s theories of sound frequencies’ relationship with chakras, and is intertwined with the project’s choreographic inspiration. The work has been devised through three creative developments with the dancers and a small hand-picked team of creative artists, including Kialea Nadine-Williams, formerly of Australian Dance Theatre. David Roberts (Davis Browne Design) and Chris Petridis further explore limits/possibilities by using their crafts (costume/lighting) as physical limitations that the dancers work in relationship with (or connect to) echoing the impulse/block ideas within the choreography. The result is a finely-tuned, well-crafted 35minutes of dance that will leave audiences of all ages invigorated.
