Artists of Iwantja Arts have a reputation for making bold and colourful prints since the 70s. These works hang proudly in galleries all over Australia. Iwantja’s Manager Helen Johnson, has facilitated the elevation of the art which is subtle and uplifting, exemplifying the strong ties Anangu people have to totemic sites in the area. Artists use symbolism from their own individual dreaming path representing not only the site, but important events. Sites may be specific rocks, waterholes, special trees, mountains and other geological features, as well as places where bush foods can be gathered. Contemporary art extends the boundaries of these traditions incorporating new themes and bold colours. Artworks from Iwantja are celebrated for their diversity of style, colour and content with each artist’s work a unique expression. Desert Kala features a collection reputable artists including; Alec Baker, Tilly Yaltangki, Maringka Burton, Mary Brumby, Betty Muffler, Nellie Coulthard, Bruce Parker, Billy Long and Peter Mungkuri.
