Incurvation (n): 1. The act of acquiring or being given a curved form. 2. Curving inwards. 3. Deviating from a straight line or course. Anorexic, surfboard, junkie, stick figure... Over the past twenty years, I've heard it all. Fellow students accused me of having an eating disorder, strangers approach me on the street and tell me to eat a burger, advertising campaigns make sure I know that "real women have curves", and I'm told to ignore it all because "they're just jealous". How has it become socially acceptable (and expected) to be so critical of ourselves and one another? And why are we so removed from the consequences of our words and actions? I'm not here to tell you that I think you're beautiful; I'm here to tell you that what I think shouldn't matter. iNCURVATION is aimed at high school students and addresses body image, eating disorders, bullying, the media and self-confidence.
