Mrs Bennet takes her daughters to the Meryton Assembly, and boasts to her husband of their conquests. Elizabeth contemplates life without Wickham, and finds it bearable. A little later she has to contemplate life without Darcy and finds it more troubling. Meanwhile her sister Jane is putting on a brave face about the defection of Bingley, while her youngest sister Lydia is making off with Wickham and Kitty is fretting under her father's resulting strictness. This program of scintillating readings from Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice' is studded with music from her personal music collection, including piano pieces and songs by Haydn, Arne, Cavendish, Gluck and others. Dance music, operatic arias, folk songs and charming duets illustrate each reading, from the Meryton Ball to the happy ending at Pemberley. Gillian Dooley has been presenting programs of Jane Austen's music since 2007, including Fringe shows and concerts in Bath and Abingdon. Fiona McCauley is a seasoned performer and has played with Gillian for more than 2 years. Raechel Damarell sang in the first Jane Austen's music performances in 2007 and 2008, and has performed as a soloist in several Adelaide venues. Tenor Henry Jones sings with Corinthian Singers.
