The Multitaskers

Music

The Multitaskers bring together three unique musicians with three facets in common: a love of risk taking, a need to push boundaries and the sense that one instrument (at a time) is not enough. At one extreme we have Tim Scanlan who literally plays six instruments simultaneously, sounding something like a one man Celtic reggae band. His celtic-harmonica skills are up there with the best in the world. At the other extreme Sheldon King (UK) plays a single guitar with such intricacy that you would swear there were at least three instrumentalists on the stage, utilising extended two handed techniques and percussion alongside almost classical contrapuntalism. Somewhere in between Rowan Blackmore takes the independence inherent in button accordion - his main instrument - to a new level adding trumpet, toy piano and guitar. His repertoire of French sea shanties is outstanding. Together they fuse elements from a wealth of musical cultures. Each artist will perform solo and then join forces for an improvised multi-multitasking crescendo. Fans of Melbourne acts Streams of Whiskey and Mutiny will spot Mark Jennings joining in the encore, as well as other special guests to be announced online. Every night is a premiere, unpredictable and stunning.
