Doors of Perception

Visual Art & Design
Presented by: JACKY MURTAUGH

Her work explores what we as individuals are drawn to and what we ignore. How we interpret shape and colour, discovering qualities and being blind to others. Our eyes pick out certain aspects dependant on our mind set. Images that are beheld can be quite different from what we perceive to the actual reality of a photograph. We not only use our sight but other senses too when observing, via smell, sound or touch, whether its cold or warm, dark or light, quiet or loud, sweet or sour all have a bearing on what we perceive. Our minds connect us to the image where we draw from our experiences and link them in some way. Murtaugh is particularly interested in the way light performs, especially reflected light and how it manifests itself, ‘glistening shapes of light, invisible but seen through the doors of perception’. Her abstract and semi abstract paintings in oil and acrylic are vibrantly impressionistic and intriguingly unique.
