WASTE land; an exploration into our obsession with technology and the excessive waste it produces. We have become numb to the human impact on our natural surroundings and now it is common place to see waste intertwined with local flora and fauna. “This is my story, my journey and a realisation of how disconnected from nature I was. Images of birds and trees from the local bush juxtapose with imbedded fragments of plastic and paper that would normally end up in my bin. This is how I see it, how waste permeates almost every aspect of nature and if we are not careful, soon there will be no natural environment at all.” Janicke’s paintings are made three dimensional by adding cast off pieces of paper and plastic while her sculptures have a Frankenstein quality about them; piecing together old newspapers, envelopes and adverting material with various types of plastics to create her own papier-mâché.
