JEN MCARTHUR/KALLO COLLECTIVE
Echolalia. A Kallo Collective production created and performed by Jen McArthur. "both Charlie Chaplin and Samuel Beckett would have been proud" theatreview, nz. Winner of Best Solo Show in the Wellington Fringe 2012 and co winner of Best of the Fringe in Dunedin, Echolalia uses clown, physical theatre and dance to present a show about the pitfalls of social etiquette. Inspired by the humour and directness of autistic children while working with them on a holiday programme, Jen McArthur created a character for the stage who doesn’t register social niceties. "Echo" is a young woman on the spectrum who is preparing for a much needed job interview. Through her efforts she puts our unspoken social rules under the spotlight to find a lot of them… ridiculous. Touching, surprising, hilarious, this is a highly recognisable portrayal of a person doing battle with their fears in a strange world. "Original", "delightful" and "a world class physical theatre comic", Jen McArthur was trained at the VCA in Choreography, Circomedia circus school in Bristol and by Lecoq clown teacher Giovanni Fusetti. She joined the international Kallo Collective (FIN, NZ, FRA) in 2010, which is dedicated to furthering the styles of clown and physical theatre.
