Dead End
Circus & Physical Theatre
Presented by:
POTBELLY PRODUCTIONS
Dead End combines circus skills with a strong, character-driven narrative. It explores the ways in which young people cope with adversity through community, developing relationships that can be supportive, parasitic or abusive. It also examines two different sides of circus, the empowering and the exploitative; a creative art that can be used to express your individuality, but also a demanding discipline that takes a heavy toll on people, props & physiques. Dead End tells the story of a run-down circus troupe, performing amazing feats against the backdrop of an Adelaide back-alley. Between and behind the routines themselves, the story of the circus and its characters come out, as performers frantically try to repair props for the next act or tend to their injuries after a trick goes wrong. Each character's story is reflected in their performance; the juggler who's withdrawn from the world, the handstand artist who's found strength through her support of others, even the ringmaster, whose cruelty toward the performers is ultimately motivated by jealousy of the amazing things they can do.
