Joe Bone’s epic comedy powers onto the stage, with Ben Roe’s evocative soundtrack. A Brighton Dome and International Festival commission, the play follows the hard-boiled anti-hero Bruce Bane as he works his way through familiar territory, gun and cigarette never far from hand. Fresh from smash-hit sell-out runs at Edinburgh Fringe in 2011 and 2012, and having been selected to represent the UK in the World Event for Young Artists, Bane arrives in Australia. Written and performed by Joe Bone, the multi award winning comedy is brought to life with Bone’s physical performance, shape-shifting from character to character as the story unfurls. The scenery is created through gesture, as Bone singlehandedly conjures the settings through body and voice with aplomb, earning a nomination from The Stage for Best Solo Performance, as well as an Off West End nomination for Best Male and Most Promising New Playwright. Throughout the piece, the guitar work of Ben Roe is subtly engaging, under-pinning the stories with a varied and deft intuition, and ensuring that the play is a simultaneous tribute to and send-up of the narratives and flashes of film noir of the 1940s - injected with the bravado of the 80’s action flick.
